The Thrill of the Roll – Dice Games You Need to Try
Dice games do tend to be a divider of the people, you either love them, or you hate them. A fair warning – if you hate them, you’ve come to the wrong place! This article is all about games that have dice as their main element – no FIFA or Fallout here. I’m going to walk you through some absolute casino classics, some party pieces, and some wildcards too.
Liar’s Dice – All About Bluffing (and Strategy)
If you’re into psychological games then you’ll love Liar’s Dice. You’ll need at least two players, but it can be played with many more. Just be warned that the more players you add, the more heated the lying accusations can become! The game involves bidding on the number of dice showing a particular face – and then challenging your opponents’ bids. Let me explain properly.
How to Play Liar’s Dice
Each player gets to roll a set of dice in secret. Then, everybody places a bid on the total number of dice showing a specific number. (Chaos ensues). Then, players take turns increasing the bid or challenging the previous bid. The chaos comes from the fact that to get ahead, you can bluff. If someone suspects you’re bluffing and you are – you lose dice, but if you’re not, you gain theirs. The gameplay is fun with just the two of you, but really brilliant with more.
Craps – The Classic Casino Dice Game
If you’re looking to play dice games online then craps is probably the first game you’ll come across. It’s available at the vast majority of online casinos because it’s the – very definition – of excitement. In craps, you bet on the outcome of the roll (or a series of rolls) – of two six-sided dice. The game features a range of betting options, which is the most difficult thing to get your head around. Don’t worry though, I’ll explain some of the key bets shortly!
The excitement of Craps comes from the communal/convivial nature of the game, where players cheer for the shooter (admittedly this is more of a feature in an actual casino rather than an online one!) and react to the dice rolls. The game also has a reputation for offering some of the best odds in the casino – on select bets only – so let’s have a look at them.
Key Bets in Craps
The Pass Line Bet wins if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 on the come-out roll. It loses if a 2, 3, or 12 is rolled. It has a – super – low house edge of 1.41%. The Come Bet is next but can be made – after – the come-out roll but does have a higher house edge of just over 4.6% so watch out for that! The final bet type are odds bets, which are made after a point has been established. These offer the best odds in the game.
Sic Bo – An Ancient Chinese Dice Game
Dating back – thousands (and thousands) – of years, this is a game that literally hasn’t changed, so it’s kind of cool to play and feel connected to a time period that’s so, so distant. Sic Bo is played with three dice, and you place bets on the possible outcomes of these dice. Sic Bo doesn’t boast a very ‘friendly’ house edge. However, some of the riskier bets do offer large payouts. So those looking for the potential for excitement with a big enough bankroll will probably feel right at home.
How to Play It?
There’s a table that covers various possible outcomes, kind of like you’d see on a roulette table. You place your chips down and then it’s time to roll! Once the roll is up, the croupier compares the actual results to the bets and the payouts are given (with odds based on the likelihood).
Zombie Dice – Bet You Weren’t Expecting This One!
Leaving behind the casino for a minute and moving into a wild game called Zombie Dice. This is fast and a little ridiculous. The game revolves around the players becoming zombies and trying to feast on brains without getting wiped out. It would be fair to say that this game works best if you’ve got an excellent imagination! You’ll probably need the custom dice to play this game, as they feature brains, footsteps and shotguns. However, if you’ve got a set of old dice that you don’t use and you’re a real cheapskate, you can actually make them yourself. Don’t tell the Zombie Dice creators we told you that.
How to Play Zombie Dice
Like any good dice game, you roll the dice to see what you get. The aim is for the zombies to collect the most brains while avoiding shotgun blasts. If you get shot three times, you’re a dead zombie. In a tricksy twist, you can choose to continue rolling for a shot at more brains or keep your current score to avoid the shotguns. It’s a quick play one too, so you’ve no excuse not to try out your talents as the dice rolling undead.
